TGAoW ran on KWCW for six semesters between Fall 1999 and Fall 2002. Thank you for listening!
Greetings! The Golden Age of Wireless is one of the most popular radio shows on KWCW 90.5FM Walla Walla, even though nobody listens to it. It is broadcast on Tuesday afternoons from 3-5 p.m. Pacific Time. TGAoW brings you the dulcet sounds of yesteryear, playing '80s, new wave, synthpop, electronic, glam, goth, industrial, and more. It is provided as a public service to Walla Walla residents, Whitman students, prison inmates, and people around the world who continue to worship the cult of eyeliner and synthesizers. The Golden Age of Wireless is hosted by the fa-bulous DJ Europa. If you're on campus/in the Walla Walla area, or just feel like running up your long distance bill, you can make a request by phone at (509) 527-5283 or -5284. Playlists will be posted as soon as possible after each show.
"I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention" - Adam and the Ants
TGAoW's timeslot, for the first time ever, is during normal waking hours! That's right, you can now listen to TGAoW without losing sleep! If you're out of KWCW's range (we broadcast at a whopping 160 watts), you can still tune into the RealAudio broadcast of TGAoW here. "The world was created on a Tuesday," said the Grim Reaper. "Very few people know that." Tuesdays can be a bit of a bitch. Mondays suck, but you're usually still too drunk to care; Wednesdays provide a glimmer of hope for the coming weekend. But Tuesdays? "Tuesday's gray," opined the Cure. But now, a glowing beam of light graces Tuesday, due to TGAoW. The bouncy '80s hits will pick up your mood, and if that doesn't work, the harsher industrial tracks will at least keep you awake through that mid-afternoon sleepy period. It's good for you! TGAoW contains less caffeine than coffee, more pale European men than Luxemburg, 100% of the recommended daily allowance of zinc, and more glitter than Elton John's armoire.
"It's dark and it's savage but it's only in neon, so come out and grab it" - Kenickie
The Golden Age of Wireless regards some artists as being particularly smiled upon by the gods. In other words, we play favorites. The show's namesake is a classic Thomas Dolby album. DJ Europa, too, gets her name from this album, from one of the finest singles that never was (in the US, anyway): the song "Europa and the Pirate Twins" (side B, track 1). (Incidentally, if you're a trained K-Dub DJ, Europa wouldn't mind having a Pirate Twin to be her sub whenever she cannot do the show.) Europa's favorite artists include Gary Numan, David Bowie, Pop Will Eat Itself, and Kraftwerk. Europa is also eternally grateful to My Life Story, Placebo, and Kenickie, for bringing back glam and repopulating the streets of London with feather boas and shiny shirts. The aging saints of Adam and the Ants and the Pet Shop Boys are also prominent in the TGAoW canon for daring to be absolutely fabulous, no matter what the sexually repressed patriarchy (or Nick Kent) said about them. Lastly, gods bless the Tubes.
"The champagne wasn't chilled, such a dreadful oversight" - My Life Story
We hope you enjoy The Golden Age of Wireless. Stay forever glamorous!
welcome to the golden age
